The Club offers two probationary membership packages. Each includes a number of pre-paid instructional flights and represents excellent value for money.
Package Deal 1 costs just $395 and includes 5 instructional flights.This is a saving of over $100 on what these flight would cost at regular club rates.
Package Deal 2 costs just $695 and includes 10 instructional flights This is a saving of over $200 on what these flight would cost at regular club rates
Common features of both packages
Both packages include:
- 3 months membership of Southern Cross Gliding Club
- 3 month short term membership of the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA).
- A pilot log book to record your flying progress, including a copy of the the pre-solo syllabus which your Instructors will guide you through on the way to becoming a glider pilot.
These packages allows you enough time to start your training and determine if gliding is for you. At the end of this period you will normally be invited to become a Full Flying member of the Club.
The Club membership year runs from 1st May each year. Members who become Full Flying members during the year pay a pro-rata amount which annualises their Club membership for the following year. The Membership Secretary calculates this amount when you are invited to Full Flying membership status.
Associate member
- if you're already a member of a bona-fide Australian gliding club, or an international club that is affiliated with the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) you may join the club as an associate member. This entitles you to fly the club aircraft on an occasional basis. If you decide that Southern Cross is the club for you, or if the Club determines
that you are a fairly regular flyer with us, you can convert (or may be asked to
convert) across to Full Flying membership.

GFA fees effective 1st May 2007, including 10% GST
- Full Flying ("ordinary") GFA membership is $190.00,
- Family membership is $154.00,
- Student membership is $115.50, and
- Family Student membership is $79.50
- 3 month short term membership (for visiting overseas pilots) is $65
- 1 month short term membership (for visiting overseas pilots) is $50
The GFA may update their fees from time to time, and information on such changes will either
be published in Australian Soaring, on the GFA web site
http://www.gfa.org.au/, or in direct correspondence with GFA members (such as at the time of renewal invoicing).
Effective from May 1st 2000, the GFA started directly collecting 12 month membership subscriptions
from Club members, whereas previously the Club handled this function on behalf of the GFA. In the
case of members transitioning from Probationary to Full Flying status, the Club handles this on
a once-off basis, and in subsequent years the member deals directly with the GFA.
Notes:
- GFA Family membership is defined as having an ordinary adult or student member also
residing at the same address. The "family" members do not receive an Australian Soaring
magazine, only the full fee paying ordinary adult or student member does.
